This launch feels extra special because, for a long time, I genuinely wasn’t sure this book would ever see the light of day.
The Story Behind the Story
I actually began writing The Shopkeeper back in late 2023, fresh off finishing North Paradise. I was excited about the concept, but about halfway through the first draft, I hit an absolute brick wall—easily the worst case of writer’s block I’ve ever experienced.
I was so stuck that I had to completely walk away from the manuscript. During that break, I wrote and released One Step Closer (which ended up reaching over 60,000 of you!).
There were moments when I thought The Shopkeeper would remain buried on my hard drive forever. But I knew deep down that this story was too good to give up on. Whenever my writing journey got tough or I wrote myself into a rut, I’d pick this draft back up and remind myself that there is always a way forward.
After nearly two years of wrestling with this plot, I finally cracked it—and I couldn’t be prouder of the finished book.
